Hugo Steinfink

Hugo Steinfink was a few months shy of his fourteenth birthday when Austria was joined to Nazi Germany during the Anschluss of March 1938. The next year he and his family moved to New York City. Steinfink served as an army medic in the Philippines during World War II. In 1948, he completed his Master’s degree in chemistry and worked at the Shell Development Company in Houston before completing his Ph.D. in X-ray crystallography at the Brooklyn Polytechnic Institute in 1954. He retired as a professor of chemical engineering at the University of Texas at Austin.
