Wolf Brauner’s father owned a hardware store in the small town of Chrzanów, Poland. Both his parents died in 1925. After the Nazi invasion of Poland in September 1939, Brauner was forced into the Warsaw ghetto where he stayed from 1940 to 1941. After being imprisoned in a series of forced labor camps, Brauner was liberated in Germany by the United States Army in 1945. He stayed in Munich until 1951 when he came to the United States.
